Nikki Hutchison, LSCSW

Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker

Nikki Hutchison completed her bachelor’s in psychology and her master’s in social work (2018) at the University of Kansas. While completing her graduate program, she worked with elementary school students in an afterschool program and teens in an acute care setting

at Research Psychiatric Center’s adolescent inpatient unit. Before coming to FPS, Nikki worked as a Children and Family Services Clinician in a local community mental health center seeing a diverse range of children and teens with depression, anxiety, self-harm behaviors, ADHD, and adjustment disorders, as well as those experiencing concerns around gender identity and sexual attraction. Nikki also led DBT groups for teens and adults.

In her sessions, Nikki draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy to help identify and reach client treatment goals. She constructs her interventions around a strengths perspective to create a safe and judgement-free space to approach difficult conversations and challenges. In doing so, Nikki identifies and utilizes strengths and supports found within her clients themselves, their families, and communities to learn new ways of coping with and overcoming stressors. Nikki emphasizes getting to know her clients and collaborating with the client so she can meet them where they are at on their therapeutic journey.

Nikki’s personal style is relatable, supportive, and creative, maximizing a positive therapeutic relationship and helping support her clients during difficult topics and concerns. She believes that everyone wants to do well and be well and she is committed to helping individuals by supporting them in strengthening old coping skills and developing new ones to improve in their daily lives and help them towards a more positive future.

Nikki accepts Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Aetna, Ambetter, KanCare, Cigna, and United Health Care. She does not accept any form of Medicare.

From Dr. Wes: As an LSCSW, Nikki is fully clinically licensed in Kansas, the highest level of qualification sanctioned by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB). She joined FPS after establishing abase in the Lawrence community and has proven herself to be a solid and popular therapist. Toward a more fulfilling, happier, healthier life...

Life is a bit like gaming. Sometimes you find yourself at a level that’s beyond your ability and a little overwhelming to deal with all by yourself. Therapy offers the support of an additional person who can guide you on the journey, gaining experience so you can level up and eventually those obstacles feel less impossible to face on your own. I’ve been privileged to have many great guides in my life, so I’ve chosen to build my career around offering that kind of support to others. Let me be your “Player 2” and together we’ll help you go forward confidently, knowing you put in the time and preparation to overcome whatever lies in your way.”
